Can You Use Steam Cleaners on Hardwood Floors?

!±8± Can You Use Steam Cleaners on Hardwood Floors?

Steam cleaners not only clean visibly but also microscopically if we base it on the number of common household germs, bacteria and viruses it eliminates. The steaming function is really a workhorse in cleaning.

It can be used on anything such as kitchen floors, tiles, upholstery and furniture, appliances, window sills and automobiles. However, the materials in these are resistant to heat. So what about hardwood floors? Is it still safe to use a cleaning tool that produces heat that exceeds that of boiling water?

In general, you can use it for hardwood floors. Here is the thing, there are specific cleaner brands that are safe to use on these kinds of floors. You just have to look it up on its list of features and specifications and for sure, it is there. Some only work for vinyl floors. Some do not work for laminated wood floors. It all depends on the brand you are getting.

If you spill hot water on your floor and notice an immediate discoloration or a change in its appearance, then you cannot use your cleaner. It produces steam that is significantly hotter than boiled water so it may do a lot of damage. However, there are also cleaners with inclusive temperature level features.

With various temperature level incorporated, you can choose the best one suitable for your hardwood floor. This way, you can clean it without using much heat. There are also those cleaners with a mop included in it. If yours comes with a complete kit and mop and brush set, then you can use it for any type of flooring. These kits come handy because you can reuse it. Just wash it and it is good to go.

The problem with this kind of flooring is they tend to swell up when subjected to heat. This damage is irreparable so you really have to consider all your options. If you are unsure about the cleaner you have and whether or not it is suitable for your hardwood cleaning needs, call up their customer service.

Ask them if it works in your kind of flooring and if they caution you on its use, then do not do it. Chances are, it will just ruin your floor. You can opt for other cleaning devices such as the steam floor mop I mentioned earlier.

Before you buy a steam cleaner, find out what cleaning features you require. Know the materials used in your house so you can better pick the right one.

3 in 1 Steam Mop By Steamfast (3 of 3)

The steamfast 3-in-1 functions as a high performance steam mop, a handheld fabric steamer, and a handheld steam cleaner. it's the only option on the market that gives you a steam control dial to dial up the steam output for tough jobs, and dial it down for delicate surfaces and fabrics. the 3-in-1 has been proven to be effective and reliable- and has earned the good housekeeping seal! as a steam mop, the 3-in-1 powers through dirt, germs and bacteria with 1300 watts of steam generating power capable of creating steam in 30 seconds or less. the mop head features a reusable microfiber cloth to trap dust, dirt and other grime that has been removed by the steam. with the steam control dial, you'll be able to turn down the steam for daily steaming that won't saturate your floors with water- or dial it up for tough stuck on messes. while most mops are stuck doing floor duty, the steamfast quickly converts to a handheld steam cleaner - complete with multiple attachments including nylon brushes, a brass brush and even a squeegee for windows and glass. unlike other "multi function" steamers out there - the 3-in-1 is lightweight and easy to use as a handheld steamer. the pole is completely detachable so you can easily reach into tight spaces. the 3-in-1 also converts into a handheld fabric steamer. a quick change of the attachement allows you to remove wrinkles and refresh fabrics such as clothing, bedding, upholstery, mattresses and drapes. why settle for single-purpose steamers ...

Monster Steam Mop - Does It Live Up to It's Name?

!±8± Monster Steam Mop - Does It Live Up to It's Name?

The Monster Steam Mop might not be an infomercial superstar like the Shark and Bissell steam mops but it has more features and seems to rate higher with customer reviews than both of them. There is actually quite a bit to like about this steam sweeper!

The Monster Steam Mop gets hotter than most mops -- 266 degrees to be exact. Why is this important? Many steam sweepers, including the Bissell and Shark, don't get to even the 212 degrees necessary to kill germs and bacteria. The Monster certainly accomplishes this and then some.

The Monster Steam Mop also has some unique design details that other mops don't offer. It has two steam directions so steam comes out of not only the bottom of the machine like other mops, but also from the front of the machine. This makes it possible to clean baseboards and edges and makes getting at corners a little easier.

The four steam levels it offers is also another unique feature that not many mops have. You can adjust the steam level to the type of floor you are mopping and how dirty the mess you are mopping is.

The Monster also has a pretty long cord for a steam sweeper. While many models have power cords that are 20 feet or under, the Monster has a generous 25 foot power cord. It also has a generous sized water tank. It holds 17 ounces of water per fill up. Quite a bit larger than the Shark's 10 ounce tank.

The carpet glide attachment is another strong feature of the Monster Steam Mop. With this attachment, you can sanitize your rugs and carpets. This is really great for killing dust mites which can cause allergy problems for many people. Some people even use their steam sweeper carpet attachments to sanitize their mattresses too.

All these features come with a price though. This mop is a little more expensive than many of the other models available today. It is also heavier than many of them. At 9 lbs, some may find it too much work to push.

Another of its weaknesses is the location of its water tank. Since the water tank is in the mop head base, it has a high profile which isn't ideal for cleaning under cabinets.

I also saw a few customer complaints in the reviews I read for this mop. One was that the handle seemed flimsy. A few people reported that their handle even broke eventually and that Euroflex, the Monster Steam Mop creator, was of little help in correcting the problem. It seems Shark has handle breaking problems and customer service issues too. Haan has the best customer service from what I have read. So if that's important to you, consider the Haan... another good steam sweeper.

Complaints aside, the Monster Steam Mop does have some really strong features and it should not be overlooked as a possibly, especially because of its hot temperature and floor and carpet sanitizing abilities!
